Light Oak
Oak forests provide a rich habitat in biodiversity, supporting more life forms than any other native trees, hosting hundreds of species of insects supplying many British birds with an important food source. In autumn, mammals such as badgers and deer take advantage of the falling acorns. The flower and leaf buds of the oak are the food plants of the caterpillars that produce the purple hairstreak butterfly.
